Mamaleh’s Day Gifts: What Mayim Wants

Need some Mother’s Day gift inspiration? We’re asking our contributing editors the three things they want (and the one thing they can’t actually buy). Here’s what Mayim Bialik is hoping for this year.

I actually don’t do “gifts” like this for Mother’s Day. It’s not my thing–but here are three things I do need…

1. New flats

I wear flats a lot. And I wear black a lot. It’s sort of Converse or flats like these 24/7 except when I have to go to some red carpet event or the Emmys or something. I wear flats most days of the week and I constantly wear them out. These are a bit more than I like to spend, but it’s Mother’s Day, right? Let’s go crazy.

2. New robe

I like a fuzzy robe. Unfortunately, I have found that the softest ones tend to be kind of pricey which is why I would never buy this for myself because I am very stingy with myself. But look how soft it looks. And cozy. And I am a person who really likes baths and it’s so nice to put on a fuzzy soft robe after a bath. And I also am always in some state of needing to do laundry so sometimes it’s so great to put on a robe after throwing everything you are wearing into the wash rather than change into clothes especially if you’ve just worked out and don’t feel ready to shower or put clean clothes on your dirty body. Also, since I am stingy, I go to great lengths to not turn on the heat if I don’t need to, so a cozy robe makes you feel warm and cozy so you don’t need to turn on the heat. Given all of that, I still won’t buy one for myself. But it’s something someone should buy for me, obviously.

3. The essential little pink tool kit

I am a divorced woman. He got the toolbox in the divorce. I need some tools. Not just the basics, either. I need the whole shebang, so that if I want to assemble something or if Fancy Assistant Brandon and I want to assemble something or if the next door neighbor who happens to be a contractor and has been helping me with some stuff needs some tool and doesn’t want to go to his van, I have it handy. I need this toolbox. And I like the pleasant colors. I like that they thought of my feminine instincts when they designed this tool box. I want it.

The one thing I want for Mother’s Day that you can’t actually buy:

Serenity.

*By purchasing any of the above items through Amazon, a portion of the proceeds will go to support our work at Kveller. It’s a Mother’s Day mitzvah!*
