News Roundup: Celebrity grandparent names and banning circumcision

All the parenting news you probably didn’t have time to read this week.

-Mom blogger Ree Drummond better known as Pioneer Woman gets the full profile treatment in the New Yorker. Her kids herd cattle! Her husband looks like the Marlboro Man! But what really gets us jealous? Her blog gets 4 million visitors a month. (New Yorker)

-Remeber how San Francisco was considering a ban on circumcision? Well, a group of “intactivists” has collected enough signatures to force a vote on a law that would make it illegal to “circumcise, excise, cut or mutilate the foreskin, testicle or penis of another person who has not attained the age of 18.” Read both sides of the debate. (The Forward)

-Oh boy, grandmas these days! Apparently Gwyneth Paltrow’s kids (Apple and Moses) call their grandmother “Woof.” This was at her request. “My mom’s hot and she didn’t want to be called Grandma,” Ms. Paltrow said. Goldie Hawn? Her grandchildren call her “Glam-Ma.” I just pity the reporter who had to dig up all these names. (The New York Times)

-A dad struggles to come to terms with his son’s love of ballet. (Chronicle of Higher Education)

Public service message: There’s been a lot of safety problems reported with Phil & Ted’s clip-on-highchair because it can “detach unexpectedly from the table.” Yikes! (Babycenter)
