News Roundup: Mom Gives Daughter a Womb and Zionist Summer Camp

By at 3:20 pm

All the parenting news you probably didn’t have time to read this week.

-A British based businesswoman, 56, is preparing to make history by becoming the first person in the world to have her womb transplanted into her daughter. If successful, the daughter would give birth from the same womb which she herself was born. (Telegraph)

-Village Voice film editor, Allison Benedikt, strikes a nerve with this piece about life after her Zionist summer camp. Namely, how she fell out of love with Israel and in love with somebody who didn’t like Israel so much. Jeffrey Goldberg, who had his own disillusionment with Israel, didn’t like the piece so much. (The Awl)

-For some, celebrating Shabbat means turning off the iPhone. It will hurt at first–trust me–but then it can feel so good. “We turned off our phones and computers with the kind of high drama that seemed to warrant its own blessing (‘borei pri ha power button.’”) Instead of checking email, they have sex and drink martinis. (Tablet)

-This family is weird. (Wall Street Journal)

-Is it just me or is anyone else really f-ing sick of the Go the F*** to Sleep book? Now Samuel Jackson did the audio version? Now Fox 2000 bought the movie rights? (Add that to the list of movies–right after What to Expect When You’re Expecting–that I don’t need to see.) Director Werner Herzog read at a launch event earlier this week in Manhattan?

-Natalie Portman had a baby!

Did we miss anything this week?
