Rosh Hashanah Resolution: Slowing Down, Getting Active & Doing Taxes

To gear up for the High Holidays this year, we’re asking our writers and readers for their Rosh Hashanah Resolution. Here are resolutions from three of our readers.

From Amy, Eugene, OR:

This year my resolution is to look at life through my 2-year-old’s eyes. I need to slow down and look for bugs, I need to pick weeds and put them in a vase… I need to slow down! Going daily from being a working, efficient mom to an at-home mom is challenging for me. I need to reset my button from fast forward to simply play.

From Dona, Upper West Side, NYC:

My Rosh Hashanah Resolution this year focuses on being a more hands-on and patient mother to my twin toddler boys, Adam and Ben, and to my third son on the way b”h. I hope to play an increasingly active role in my children’s lives and pay more attention to activities and learning enrichment rather than the preparation of meals and other mundane chores that accompany parenthood.

Taking a step back from my career with my husband’s support will provide more time and energy to give to my children and growing family.

Over this year, our passion has become our small family shifting our attention from our demanding careers and the constant rat race of bettering our financial status. With the help of God, we plan on reuniting with our extended family in Israel for good and teaching our children that love and happiness can be so much more fulfilling when shared with the people you love in the country you love.

From Bevin, Pleasant Hill, IA:

I would like to learn how to do my taxes. As nerdy/stereotypical as it sounds, that is, to me, one of the ultimate signs of independence. Almost everyone has someone do their taxes for them. I am very much a do-it-yourselfer (I had handmade decorations for my wedding and make my own of pretty much everything in our house) and my Rosh Hashanah Resolution is to learn how to do my taxes myself.
