Inspiration for my dress: John Singer Sargent's Lady Agnew
After the initial hysteria about my Emmy nomination abated and after my parents stopped crying with joy and after I returned from Atlanta, which is where I was when I found out I got nominated, my thoughts turned to the practicalities of Emmy night. Namely, what was I going to wear?
Last year I wrote a very in depth four-part series entitled Operation Hot and Holy, detailing my search for a tznius (modest) Emmy dress. When all was said and done, I ended up with a dress that I loved last year, but as my set of essays described, the journey there was long, complicated, and full of dresses that revealed more of me than I prefer to.

It was as hectic a vacation as one might expect with an almost 4- and almost 7-year-old, but it was also really beautiful, the spa was awesome, and I got wrapped in Sea of Cortez mud and everything. Read the rest of this entry →

This is going to be the post that people speak of if God forbid I ever have a mini-breakdown, or a major one for that matter.
It’s been a long week. It’s been a long few weeks. It’s been a big couple of months.
My book came out in March which was very hectic and fun and good. Then TIME magazine came out and a whole new set of publicity was thrust at me. CNN and NPR Affiliates and Anderson Cooper came calling, and there were all of these amazing opportunities to talk about my book, about the natural physiology of mammalian parenting, and breastfeeding. It’s good. But it’s also led to a tremendous amount of negative comments and insults being hurled at me through articles written about me, or referencing me. I wrote about it here, because it’s kind of been intense in my world. Read the rest of this entry →
