Mayim Bialik: Let’s Talk About Gap Years

Now that the New Year is over, let’s talk about the “gap year” because it’s been on my mind. The gap year? Yes. The gap year.

Not what you were expecting after Yom Kippur, I know. But take a listen.

What’s a gap year, you say? Well, a gap year is the time between when a teenager finishes high school and starts college. Gap year consciousness and gap year programs are becoming increasingly popular in the US. In fact, Harvard actually recommends a gap year to all incoming students, Princeton has an entire gap year department, and Tufts now offers a stipend to students who do a social justice gap year.

“Blossom” is Returning to Television!

You asked for it, you got it. Not that I had anything to do with it….but… “Blossom” is coming to HUB TV!

The show has never formally been in syndication even though it ran for five years and people liked it and all of that jazz. Shout Factory released the first and second seasons on DVD, but never released seasons 3, 4, or 5, so our little show sort of fell into a black hole it seemed.

Well, now you can watch all of my humiliating coming-of-age stories and fashion styles from 1990-1994 from the comfort of your very own home! You can watch me go from gangly 14-year-old to gangly 19-year-old. You can see my first kiss (with Stephen Dorff) and you can see me kiss Johnny Galecki, too. I’ve Never Shaved My Legs, So What?

As fellow writer Carla Naumburg and I have discussed both here on Kveller and also off-post, she and I are very different. We are also very much alike.

Take her latest post about waxing her nether regions, for example: I too have never partaken in waxing. Matter of fact, I remain the tomboy/feminist who has never in her life shaved her legs or armpits. Ever.
