“The Big Bang Theory” films about three episodes per month, and we get off a week in between episodes. These hiatus weeks tend to be busy, as I use that week to catch up on everything I can’t do during the weeks I am filming. Thus, I generally spend hiatus weeks wearing pajamas and cooking and cleaning (I clean my own toilets and everything), going to doctor’s appointments, and hanging out with my kids, trying to not feel like an out-of-touch mama because I am a working mama.
This past hiatus I went to the Colonial city of Antigua in Guatemala and I stayed at the Porta Antigua Hotel. It was beautiful. Tons of history and ruins and churches long ago turned into museums. The ancient Mayan capital city of Tikal was rivaled in my experience only by Cairo in terms of its magnitude, magnificence, and greatness.
Guatemala is a country rich in culture and full of stunning architecture, natural resources, and tons of adventure. The food was consistently delicious and if you have a heart for trying new things and exploring new places, I highly recommend traveling to Guatemala. Hasta la proxima vez, Guatemala! We swam in the pool, admired iguanas who lived near the hotel, ate more guacamole than I care to admit, and took a boat trip to a private beach. Read the rest of this entry →

Although The Big Bang Theory has been on hiatus since April, I haven’t really been “on vacation” until this past week. My summer has been filled with travel for Texas Instruments (I’m their spokeswoman, dontcha know), speaking engagements (three trips to New York in the month of June alone), and other various publicity (such as Monte Carlo with Melissa Rauch from Big Bang, which I wrote about in four parts for Kveller.com). Fred and I on a mining tour!
We took a family road trip and got home last night. Me, the husband, the 6-year-old (Miles), and the 3 1/2-year-old (Fred). Four nights in and around Tucson including the ghost towns of Tombstone and Bisbee and a “guest ranch” in the Saguaro National Forest.
It was kind of the vacation from H-E-double-hockey-sticks. Here’s why we should’ve stayed home and “had a picnic in the bathtub” as Bob Dylan famously suggested when his family adventure went sour (“Talkin’ Bear Mountain Picnic Massacre Blues“). Read the rest of this entry →
