In times of absolute horror and despair, it’s crucial to laugh–and laugh often. This is why I sort of love the fact that KFC published a free 96 page romance novel featuring the one and only heartthrob, Colonel Sanders, as its hero. KFC released the novel for Mother’s Day as a funny joke, but considering the moment (hello, Trumpcare bill), it could’t have come at a better time.
The book is called (wait for it) “Tender Wings of Desire,” which follows Lady Madeline Parker. She runs away from a man she doesn’t love, only to meet a “handsome sailor with a mysterious past” (aka: Colonel Sanders). The summary on Amazon is kind of hilarious (and I can’t help but wonder if it’s also a shout out to the 1987 German film “Wings of Desire“):
“When Lady Madeline Parker runs away from Parker Manor and a loveless betrothal, she finally feels like she is in control of her life. But what happens when she realizes she can’t control how she feels? When she finds herself swept into the arms of Harland, a handsome sailor with a mysterious past, Madeline realizes she must choose between a life of order and a man of passion. Can love overcome lies? What happens in the embrace of destiny, on the Tender Wings of Desire?”
I laughed out loud reading this. There’s even an over-the-top cheesy book trailer. Here’s a sample of the book (and its apt dedication):
