Paging all “Pitt” fans! A teaser for season three of everyone’s favorite medical thriller — and HBO’s arguably most Jewish show streaming — has arrived. And we can all take a collective sigh of relief: Dr. Robby lives!!
The 75-second teaser features Noah Wyle’s gruff Dr. Robby returning for his first shift back at The Pitt following a three-month sabbatical. All last season, Robby planted the not-so-subtle seeds that he might not professionally (or mortally) return from the motorcycle trip he planned for his time off. So Robby stepping off the elevator onto the Pitt floor in the trailer is a welcome sight. But what, if anything, has changed for our tortured Jewish emergency medicine physician?
It’s Nov. 12, 2026 now, just a few weeks before Thanksgiving and Hanukkah, and a nightshift. Robby’s least favorite co-workers Drs. Al-Hashimi and Langdon are working, as well as most of the familiar Pitt faces: Abbot, Shen, Santos, Whitaker, King, Javadi, McKay, Garcia, Ellis, Henderson and head nurse Dana Evans. Meanwhile, Dr. Samira Mohan is notably absent. (News broke before the season two finale that Dr. Mohan, played by Supriya Ganesh, would not return for this season.)
“I knew my first day back was gonna be hard. Dealing with what we go through here,” Robby says in voice-over. “But it’s time to get back to it.”
Though it’s not indicated in the trailer, Noah Wyle recently revealed to Deadline that season three will show Robby begin therapy. (Baruch Hashem!) “We’re going to see that [Robby]’s begun the therapeutic road; it’s had a positive effect. It’s fragile, and it’s not without risk and vulnerability, but at least there’s forward progress,” he explained.
What remains unclear is just how Jewish this new season will be. “The Pitt” season one depicted Robby reciting the Shema during a crisis and season two featured a storyline of a survivor of The Tree of Life synagogue shooting. One clue lies among the new cast. Yesterday, HBO announced seven new cast members for “The Pitt” season three. Among them is actor Chris Diamantopoulos who has been cast as Dr. Asher Grossman, the new Chief Medical Officer of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, replacing Gloria Underwood from season one. Could these two Jewish doctors go head-to-head over the direction of PTMC? We’ll have to see!
Season three of “The Pitt” will drop in January 2027. Until then, there are thankfully plenty of other Jewish shows on HBO Max to tide you over.
