Most non-Israelis know Noa Kirel as the singer of “Unicorn,” which represented Israel in the 2023 Eurovision, earning the pop singer a very impressive 3rd place in Europe’s biggest song contest.
Israelis, of course, know her as the nation’s biggest pop star. In some ways, she is the nation’s Taylor Swift, if Taylor Swift had a more hip hop and R&B sensibility. Kirel sells out the nation’s biggest stages and puts on lavish shows with outfit changes. And just like Taylor Swift, who recently got engaged to Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce, Kirel is settling down with a football player — of the European kind, Daniel Peretz, a goalkeeper for Bundesliga club Hamburger SV — after dating some of the country’s hottest actors and pop stars.
And just like Taylor released an entire album inspired by Kelce, “The Life of a Showgirl,” Kirel, who got married this week, released not one but two music videos shot at her literal wedding. (To be fair, she’s so big she had to have two ceremonies two nights in a row, so she had plenty of footage).
One of the songs is a catchy tune called “Bridezilla,” rhyming with her nickname Noa Killah, in which she tells her now husband, Peretz, that now is his chance to back out before he breaks the glass. She showed off the choreography and a very sexy outfit change to her partner at their wedding and Peretz seemed very happy to be there — as he should be. She calls him an “original Alpha guy” in the song and muses how much she likes the moniker “Mrs. Peretz.”
The second song is a more heartfelt one titled “All That I Want” in which, like Taylor does in “Wi$h Li$t,” Kirel paints a picture of their future kids playing soccer with their father, and talks about how she wants him to be happy and loves to kiss his face and listen to him sing her songs. “All I want is/To go to a game again/For him to see me happy for him/And yelling loudly.”
“I count every plane and every minute/Hate that I’m so far again,” she says about their long distance relationship (Peretz spends the soccer season in Germany), and about how she wants to meet him in her dreams.
Peretz seemed genuinely moved at the couple’s wedding when she sang the song to him. He teared up over the emotion evident in the song.
Honestly, kudos to Noa. These new songs are a genuinely meaningful way to pay tribute to her new husband and their union, and she executed a very tight turnaround on these wedding videos. Taylor Swift, take notes.
Mazel tov, Noah and Daniel!
