Mazel tov to comedian and actor Esther Povitsky, who just welcomed her second child, a son.
I’m so thrilled for the Jewish “Alone Together” co-creator and “Dollface” star, and hope she gets some R&R — as much as you can get with a baby and a toddler.
Povitsky, 37, gave birth to a son Bernard King this Monday, a second child with her husband, comedian Dave King (their daughter, Ace, was born in March of 2024).
Bernard is a perfect Jewish grandfather name — we hear they’re all the rage right now! It’s also the perfect mouse name, as proven by the 1977 Disney film “The Rescuers.” I truly think Povitsky gets a 10/10 in the baby naming department — even if, in one of her stand-up bits, she complained about the fact that boys’ names just aren’t that great (we feel that, but we do have quite a few great ones in our Jewish baby name bank).
While I’m happy she landed on a great name, I’m going to miss her pregnancy stand-up.
I’ve always been a fan of Povitsky’s acting and comedy, but the videos she shared over her second pregnancy these last few months have been especially excellent and hilarious.
She talked about having GD — not gestational diabetes, but gender disappointment — as well as her disdain for the term and concept of “boy mom,” her love for epidurals, how she called her Jewish father to see if he was to blame for her big baby, and even some genuinely valuable baby naming advice:
“i lost 7 lbs 5 oz and cured my gender disappointment all in one night (!!!!!!!!!!!!)” Povitsky wrote on Instagram this Wednesday.
I’m so thrilled for the Jewish mom of two and excited for her future (post-parental leave) comedy — sans bump and GD.
