Jewish singer Pink, born Alecia Beth Moore, visited New York 2nd Avenue Deli last week to try some of the city’s best Kosher Jewish fare. And of course, she took a picture with the deli’s manager, Steve Cohen.
“Look who stopped by for a pastrami on rye!”, the deli, which has both an Upper East Side and a Midtown location, shared on Instagram. “The incredible @pink met our very own Steve Cohen — a true NYC legend himself. Only at 2nd Avenue Deli do you find this kind of combo: platinum records and perfect pickles.”
“I started here 1981, right before Passover. My favorite part of the job is meeting people, talking to people, I love to schmooze,” Cohen, a New York icon in his own right, told PBS News Hour in 2016. We really hope he got to chat with the famous singer, who seemed very thrilled to be there, after they took a photo together.
Pink’s mother, Judith Kugel, is Jewish and raised her daughter with a love for Jewish tradition and food. The singer has shared her Hanukkah celebrations with her family in a video where she and her daughter Willow sang the Hanukkah blessings together back in 2021.
In 2022, the “Raise Your Glass” singer went live on TikTok to make her mother’s famous kugel, and to talk about her love for Jewish tradition and speak out against rising antisemitism. In that live, she shared that her favorite Jewish meal is ” fluffy matzah ball soup made from scratch, fried latkes, kugel and fresh warm challah,” all scrumptious noshes that 2nd Avenue Deli offers, along with what Steve calls their “mechaye” pastrami.
We hope she had a delicious time!
