Between viral “what were you like in the ’90s” videos and the transporting hit show “Love Story,” we’re all feeling the ’90s fever this year.

That includes Kveller’s audience, who overwhelmingly voted for an unforgettable ’90s hit as the winner of this year’s Passover parody contest.

We are so excited to announce that the winner of the 2026 competition was New Jersey-based music teacher Sam Levine‘s parody of 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up” titled “Plagues (What’s Going On?).”

Levine, who teaches both 4th and 5th grade music and Hebrew school classes, grew up in the ’90s and fell in love with the music of that formative decade. And so, when working on his parody, he wanted to choose a song from the ’90s, but one that his young students would also recognize. “Thinking of the big ‘heeeeeeeeey!!!’ in the chorus of the song ‘Whats Up’ by 4 Non Blondes and changing it to ‘plaaaaaaaaagues!!!,’ as well the line ‘I wake in the morning’ and thinking about the Pharaoh waking in the morning to find all the plagues, the song came into place!” he told Kveller over e-mail.

When we sent the lyrics to Temple Isaiah’s Rabbi Jaclyn Cohen, who performed an incredible rendition of last year’s parody contest winner, we were expecting greatness. But we’re happy to say that the video Cohen, videographer Emma Fierberg and their all-women team delivered exceeds every one of our expectations.

Rabbi Cohen perfectly channels lead singer Linda Perry with that bejeweled top hat, and we love all the ’90s touches they added to the video (the butterfly clips!). Yet our favorite part of the video might be the adorable group of kids acting as the 10 plagues, Moses, Pharaoh and the Israelites, which includes Cohen’s own 4-year-old making his parody video debut.

“Having a collection of Temple youth participate was just the sweetest thing ever,” Rabbi Cohen told us over e-mail. “I can’t wait for these kiddos to see themselves onscreen.”

We’ll definitely be playing this one all holiday long. Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s Passover parody contest, and mazel tov again to Sam. Hope you have a rocking Passover!
