What do you do when you’re the founder of LoveShackFancy, a brand beloved by Gen Z known for its frilly, pink, “Little House on the Prairie” meets “Barbie” aesthetics, and your daughter is about to have a bat mitzvah?
Well, you give her the pink, gauzy, magical bat mitzvah of everyone’s dreams.
That’s what LoveShackFancy’s Rebecca Hessel Cohen did. The founder and creative director of the brand, which also sells some lovely Judaica, shared all the beautiful details of her daughter Scarlett’s special day on Instagram last week.
The event, which took place at the Plaza Hotel in New York City (because it is a fairytale bat mitzvah, after all), even featured a custom LoveShackFancy Torah cover (better known as mantel or dress) and tallit (Jewish prayer shawl).
The Torah dress was pink with gauzy embellishments that featured stars of David and the bat mitzvah girl’s monogram (with hearts and ribbons on it, of course).
The tallit was gauzy and pink as well, with bows and pink tzitzit adorned with pearls. The guests all got pink monogrammed and bedazzled kippahs, too, of course.
The over-the-top bat mitzvah also had a pink carpet, where guests could share messages for the bat mitzvah girl. Hessel Cohen shared one for her own daughter: “My best friend, my daughter, just be yourself, be confident, take it all in, and be the magical girl that you always are for the rest of your life. All the good things will come your way.”
She also shared that Scarlett actually designed all her bat mitzvah outfits (yes, there were more than one). “Scarlett’s looks are very sparkly, very pink, very Scarlett. She designed them all herself, custom couture LoveShackFancy. They have a progression through the evening so you’re going to see three [outfits].”
Hessel Cohen wore a custom LoveShackFancy outfit herself, including a sparkly maxi sequin dress with a mermaid pattern. Her husband, Todd Cohen, wore a pink blazer to match.
They weren’t the only ones at the event in custom LoveShackFancy. Rabbi Rebecca Keren Jablonski got the special treatment at the LoveShackFancy store when she went to buy her dress for the event — one that had to be tailor-fitted to her body, since the rabbi was 30 weeks pregnant and LoveShackFancy is not known for a maternity line (yet?).
“The bat mitzvah girl is stepping into womanhood, I’m stepping onto the bimah with a baby on board,” Jablonski, the author of “Confessions of a Female Rabbi,” joked on social media.
The party, obviously, had everything you could dream up. LoveShackFancy pop-ups, lots of LoveShackFancy Stanley cups you could bedazzle, a jewelry station, acrobats and dancers, giant floral arrangements (all pink!), a multi-tiered cake, claw machines and even a bedazzled basketball hoop (how delightful is that?!).
Scarlett’s younger sister, her mother and father all sang Scarlett’s praises, with Todd saying that he is “incredibly proud of the way you carry your Jewish identity… the world could always use a little more Scarlett and a lot more pink!”
A hearty (and pink!) mazel tov to Scarlett!
