When Hallmark released its 2023 Hanukkah movie “Round and Round,” the editors here at Kveller and our partner site Hey Alma were stunned. “Round and Round” wasn’t just a great Hallmark movie, it was a great movie period. The rom-com stars Dropout sensation Vic Michaelis as Rachel, a book editor who gets stuck in a time loop on the seventh night of Hanukkah. In order to break the cycle, Rachel enlists the help of her grandmother’s menschy and extremely attractive art teacher Zach (Bryan Greenberg). Romance ensues.
Now, it turns out that Vic had just as good a time making “Round and Round” as we did watching it. In a recent episode of Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney’s podcast “What’s Our Podcast?,” Vic said that making the movie “was the most fun thing I’ve ever done.”
“You do two takes and they go, ‘We got it,'” Vic relayed to Beck and Kyle. “And I go, ‘I don’t think I even said all my lines.’ And they go, ‘It’s going to cut together perfectly.'”
And you know what? It did cut together perfectly — and that’s not just our opinion. When “What’s Our Podcast?” shared a clip of Vic talking about “Round and Round” on their social media, fans poured into the comment section to say how much they loved it. One comment with over 400 likes proclaimed “Round and Round” the best Hallmark holiday movie, and one that needs to be talked about more. (Agreed!) Other commenters share that they purchased and/or hunted down physical copies of the movie so they could add it to their Hanukkah-viewing repertoire. A few people even suggested the idea of a sequel, perhaps titled “Round and Rounder.”
You hear that, Hallmark? Make our Hanukkah dreams come true and give us a sequel to “Round and Round.” At the very least, it seems like it would be easy to get Vic Michaelis on board.
Can we ask? Keep Jewish joy accessible to all. Reader donations help us do just that. Can you help us meet our year-end goals? (We'll love you forever.)
