The first headline I wrote for this post was “Bachelorette Andi Dorfman Chooses Handsome Dumb Jock–Again!” Will we girls ever learn?
Throughout this season of “The Bachelorette,” which ended Monday night, we watched ABC’s first-ever Jewess fall for former Wisconsin Brewers ball player Josh Murray as he pleaded earnestly, “Don’t stereotype me; I’m really not like that.”
Murray was out to prove that he is not a player like the other athletes Andi is used to dating–and he succeeded. Andi chose Josh over nice midwestern boy Nick Viall. I just rolled my eyes; we’ve all heard that one before, right?
But then I did a quick search for “Josh Murray” and it turns out the jock is a Jew! Well, sort of. The Jewish Week reports Murray’s dad is Catholic and his mother is Jewish–which means he’s Jewish enough for my Nana who thinks intermarriage more threatening to Jewish continuity than Hamas’ charter. This changes everything.
Now the big question is: will they raise their gorgeous kids around a Shabbat table? Don’t hold your breath. Judging from this recent tweet, Josh is leaning more towards his Catholic side:
‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you ……’ -Matthew 7: 7-8 #GodIsGreat

Nevertheless, Mazel Tov to the happy couple!
