Emma’s Poem: The Voice of the Statue of Liberty By Linda Glaser

Buy This Book

Thoughtfully rendered and perfectly told, this book is the story of Emma Lazarus, a wealthy Jewish woman who wanted for nothing, but was deeply struck by the poverty she saw in new immigrants coming to New York. She defined the immigrant experience for so many by penning the words, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” and she’s inspired generations with those same lines ever since. I’d love to think that she might inspire kids to look outside their own experiences, to the larger world.
