Chewbacca Mom, otherwise known as Candace Payne to her family and friends, recently made a lot of people cry and smile simultaneously with her heartwarming Facebook Live video. She made the video as a reaction to the devastating tragedies in the news this past week.
In case you missed who Chewbacca Mom is, she became internet famous when she recorded herself trying on a Chewbacca mask that was initially a gift for her son. Her video actually became one of the most popular Facebook live streams ever, with over 150 million views.
In the new video, Payne explained that she lives only 30 minutes from Dallas, so she felt she needed to trade in her Chewbacca mask for a piano instead. This time, she sang Michael Jackson’s “Heal the World.” Her song is surprisingly moving and heartbreaking, and speaks to the current political climate.
Payne stated in her post that she hopes the song will convey all of the emotions she can’t put into words:
“I really don’t know else to say other than, I’ve been spreading joy and I’ve been hoping to do that, but I found myself the last couple of days being silent because I’ve been so sad and so hurt by what’s going on. And I wanted to just share with you my own arrangement of a song . . . that has really meant something amazing to me . . . and then hope that in some way it touches you and inspires you today to make a better place.”
