A 7-Year-Old Girl Pulled a Sword Out of King Arthur’s Lake

Move over, King Arthur, and make room for Matilda Jones. The 7-year-old girl from Yorkshire apparently just pilled out a huge, 4-foot long sword from a lake, just like the fabled future king and Excalibur. And well, she may just be magical.

While she and her family were vacationing in Cornwall, they stopped by Dozmary Pool–which is the famous “spot where King Arthur returned Excalibur after being fatally wounded in the Battle of Camlann,” according to Daily Mail. This is the lake where the Lady of the Lake dwelled–the same lake Arthur tossed his sword into after he was injured. You know, NBD.

The funny thing is, Matilda’s dad just told her about the King Arthur legend recently, so it was even more kismet when she found the sword, as he explained: “She was only waist deep when she said she could see a sword. I told her not to be silly and it was probably a bit of fencing, but when I looked down I realized it was a sword. It was just there laying flat on the bottom of the lake.”

He added that he just thinks it’s “probably an old film prop.” While it’s clearly an amazing coincidence, it definitely makes you think about how Hollywood should totally make a King Arthur film with a woman and/or girl as the main character–which a Twitter user kind of pointed out:
