Would you let your partner try your breastmilk, and joke about it publicly? Recently, celebrity couple David Cross and Amber Tamblyn joked about how he tried her breastmilk and apparently, “loved it.” The couple married in 2012 and had their first child (and daughter) in February. Tamblyn told Us Weekly that she convinced her husband to try it, making it seem normal. “I was like, ‘This is an honorary thing that husbands have to do is drink their wives’ breast milk!'”
I love how Tamblyn sort of tricked her husband, and is also making light of a controversial topic in the “mommy wars.” Often times, magazines either want to capture celebrities doing crazy things (like breastfeeding their kids at age 10 or making gourmet breastmilk cheese). So I appreciate her making light of parenthood and all its attendant wackiness.
Tamblyn went on to say:
“He loved it. I was like, ‘Have one sip. And he drank the whole thing. I came home late at night and I’d had a bourbon so I obviously couldn’t give it to my child. It was my birthday gift to myself. My first bourbon I think in a year and a half.”
Of course, Cross butted in (because you know, he’s funny too, that’s kind of his schtick) and revealed a truth about breastmilk—it changes composition, with “foremilk” and “hindmilk” having different tastes and consistency.
“It was amazing! I had some very early on, it was very sweet. And then last night, I had the tiniest little bit. It was not sweet, it was very decadently, creamy, fatty, creamy. I don’t know. It tasted like a desert you would pay $50 for. American dollars.”
This isn’t the first time Tamblyn and Cross made light of all the parenting stuff. When they announced their daughter Marlowe’s birth, they said her name was “Dauphinoise Petunia Brittany Scheherazade Von Funkinstein Mustard Witch RBG Cross Tamblyn-Bey jr.”
Humor is kind of the best catharsis sometimes.
