For traditionally observant Jews, chanting the Shema is a commandment to be fulfilled twice a day, “when you lie down and when you arise,” and some rabbis encourage Jewish parents to sing it to their children at bedtime. So that makes the Shema the world’s oldest lullaby on record, nu?
