Diving Into the Waters of Weird With Famed Israeli Author Etgar Keret (Episode 23)

waters of weird

Get ready for things to get a little bit weird.

On this week’s episode of Call Your Mother, Jordana and Shannon talk with one of Israel’s most famous authors, Etgar Keret. Etgar is best known for his short stories, which are absurd, funny, and celebrate the ridiculousness of life. Etgar’s new collection, Fly Already, will be published in the U.S. in September.

Shannon and Jordana call Etgar at his hotel room in Belgium — where he’s working on a TV show — and, perhaps not surprisingly, the conversation takes a turn for the bizarre. Here’s a small taste:

Shannon: You describe yourself as a little strange. So what is it that makes you strange?

Etgar: If somebody ever gives me a mission to go to hell and gives me the mission to get the devil to brush his teeth, the toughest point in this assignment [for me] would be buying a toothbrush.

Right, OK. After this wild conversation, Jordana’s mother lectures on why we shouldn’t let our kids drink any alcohol before they turn 21. If you haven’t picked up on this yet, Gram is a rule follower! Tune in to Call Your Mother ASAP to hear more.
