In the eyes of many, Pete Davidson is already a jaddy.
What’s a jaddy? A Jewish zaddy. (And what’s a zaddy? It’s a term for a very attractive, usually older — though Pete is merely 31 — man.)
But now, the self-proclaimed “Irish Jew” is about to be a Jewish dad.
The “Saturday Night Live” and “Bupkis” star recently revealed that he’s expecting his first child. Or rather, his girlfriend, Elsie Hewitt, shared the news in an adorable and very online post which featured “Love Island” memes and cute videos and photos from their baby’s ultrasound.
According to TMZ, a close source to Elsie shared that the model and actress (“Dave,” “Industry”) is due this winter. Davidson and the 29-year-old London native have been together since March of last year, and Elsie has shared some pretty adorable shots of her and her beau throughout these past few months.
Davidson was raised in Staten Island by an Irish-American mother and a Jewish father. His father, a firefighter, was killed on 9/11 along with all six members of his firetruck, Brooklyn Ladder 118. Pete was 7 years old at the time.
Davidson became incredibly close with his paternal grandfather, Stephen Davidson, who starred with him in “The King of Staten Island,” which Pete dedicated to his father, Scott. Stephen’s love for the Yiddish word “bupkis” inspired the title of the comedian’s 2023 show.
Surprisingly, Pete had no idea that he was Jewish for much of his life. His mother raised him Catholic, but when he took a DNA test as an adult, the results came back saying that he was 48% Jewish. His mother explained that number came from his father.
“I’m just an Irish Jew,” he shared in a 2017 interview. “My mom was Irish, my dad was Jewish. I just found out, like this year… I always wanted to be Jewish.”
And now, he’s going to be an Irish Jewish dad! We’re excited for Elsie and Pete! He already brings in all the (dad?!) jokes, so we think he’s ready.
