Amy Schumer Shares Powerful Video of Her Dad’s MS Treatment

It can be incredibly hard to watch — and to know what to do — when a parent struggling with a chronic illness. It may feel lonely and alienating and emotionally draining, particularly if you are a caregiver (in addition to being a concerned family member).

Comedian Amy Schumer knows what it’s like. Yesterday, she posted a video on Instagram of her dad, Gordon, undergoing treatment for multiple sclerosis. He was diagnosed with the disease when she was just 12.

The heartwarming video shows Gordon and Amy at his treatment. In it, Amy says to her normally wheelchair-bound dad, “We haven’t stood next to each other in a while,” while “Aime” by Pure Prairie League is playing. That’s the very song Amy Schumer was named after, her dad explains.

Previously, in an interview with People, Schumer opened up about her dad’s illness, and how it affects her, saying, “In terms of my dad being sick, it was just confusing to me, especially the way MS works. He was in physical pain. That’s when I kind of took the lead and took care of everybody in my family. I would keep them – I would keep everybody laughing.”
