Chicken Man By Michelle Edwards

While the Jewish message of this book–to appreciate what you have in life–is similar to the themes of the other titles I’ve already mentioned, Chicken Man stands out as a great book about the Israeli kibbutz experience. As Rody the Chicken Man moves from job to job at Kibbutz Hanan, taking pleasure in each task he’s given, the chickens he’s no longer able to spend time with in his daily work become upset and stop laying for the kibbutz! Kids will learn much about Israeli communal living from this book, but they’ll also enjoy the unusual art, the loads of bright colors, and hey–let’s be honest–the chickens!
