Did Jennifer Lopez Become Orthodox After Visiting Israel?

It’s no secret that singer/actress Jennifer Lopez and her fiancee, former New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez, are mad about each other. But apparently they also fell in love with Israel when they visited the Jewish state earlier this month.

“What an amazing time we are having on my first trip to Tel Aviv!” Rodriguez, 44, tweeted. “The people have been wonderful and have such energy.”

The couple and their four children — Lopez has twins with her ex-husband, Marc Anthony; Rodriguez has two kids with his ex, Cynthia Scurtis — trekked to Tel Aviv to perform a concert for her It’s My Party world tour.

Yesterday, in a YouTube video she shared to promote the tour, the “Jenny From the Block” singer is seen touring Jerusalem’s Old City with her family.

It’s clear that Lopez, 50, really, really loves Israel — so much so, in fact, that some people seem to think she’s “flipped out,” as the kids call it these days.

On Monday, Lopez shared a photo of herself looking extra posh, draped on a mustard-colored velvet couch and dressed in a modest, black leather dress. It was merely meant to promote her upcoming movie, Hustlersbut some were quick to notice the covered arms, legs, and head.

Forward editor and Twitter user Avital Chizhik Goldschmidt jokingly inferred J-Lo’s modest fashion as dropping a huge hint: She’s become an Orthodox Jew.

“One trip to Israel and J-Lo already flipped out,” Goldschmidt tweeted.

The term “flipping out” broadly refers to the experience of a Jewish young adult who, after a year of studying in Israel, becomes exponentially more religious. To friends and family, the lifestyle change can seem dramatic and fleeting, but it’s not always just a phase. Some people return to their pre-Israel study religious beliefs, and others “flip out” for the long haul.

So did Lopez flip out after spending less than a few days in Israel? To our knowledge, that’s a hard no — after all, in the subsequent video she posted to Instagram, she literally has a butt cheek exposed. (Also, FYI: J-Lo was raised Roman Catholic and went to Catholic schools.)

But if J-Lo did convert to Judaism? Honestly, we’d all flip out.
