This ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ Version of ‘Adon Olam’ Is Golden

We’re here to celebrate another Azi Schwartz bop! The Park Avenue Synagogue cantor who brought us an “Adon Olam” set to “Wicked”‘s “Popular,” “Hamilton”‘s “You’ll Be Back” and  Coldplay’s “Sky Full of Stars,” along with a Harry Styles’ style version of “Etz Chaim” is taking on the biggest musical hit of the year.

I’m talking, of course, of the record-breaking “KPop Demon Hunters,” the animated Netflix sensation about demon-slaying Korean pop stars. Schwartz says he used “Adon Olam” to turn the most beloved song of the movie, “Golden,” sung by the fictional demon-fighting girl group HUNTR/X, from K-Seoul into J-Soul. We love the pun. He also joked that he was now part of “Kippah Demon Hunters,” a movie we would most definitely watch.

“Sometimes the most ancient words find new life in the most unexpected melodies (this time all the way from Seoul!) — and that’s the beauty of Jewish music: timeless, adaptable, alive,” Schwartz shared on social media. Honestly, this version of “Adon Olam” is truly golden! To paraphrase the lyrics of the song: Azi Schwartz is shining on the bimah, like he’s born to be!

Honestly, the lyrics of the original song, which are all about finding a way to not hide who you truly are and to let yourself shine, do feel like they could be about the Jewish story. While we’re sure there are plenty of “KPop Demon Hunters” Hanukkah and Passover parodies in our future, it’ll be hard to top this “Golden” “Adom Olam.”
