We Really Don’t Know What To Make of This Bar Mitzvah Invitation

Brody Criz’s bar mitzvah is coming up, and now the whole world knows about it–thanks to his music video invitation.

The 13-year-old boy, who hails from the Chicago area, is now gracing hundreds of thousands of computer screens around the world with his dance moves and mitzvah-themed rewrites of Top 40 hits, urging invitees to come to his bar mitzvah for a good time. The video also features his parents and two siblings–one of whom was over this video before it even started.

It’s pretty funny and only a little cringe-inducing. At least, until about two minutes and 45 seconds in.

We’re not gonna let you guys be surprised–this kid gets naked. Yup. Naked. We’d like to think there’s a pair of underwear behind that censored bar, but we can’t be entirely sure.

According to the Daily Beast, the video was produced by Xpress Video Production, which has taken on multi-thousand dollar bar mitzvah invitation videos in recent years as part of a growing trend of extravagancy in coming-of-age ceremonies.

It’s kind of hard not to question the parenting here. On the one hand, it’s their money. And if Brody had fun, that’s kind of all that matters.

On the other hand, this is the Internet, where I’m sure a litany of nasty commenters have gleefully left horrible messages for him to read. His family should also be prepared for this to be part of their son’s online identity for, oh, I dunno, forever. Kind of hard to see where the pros outweigh the cons, but that’s just me.

At least it’ll make an interesting résumé headline…
