13 Detroit Jewish Family Events to Check Out This Spring

Spring has arrived in the D and we have a great line up of family events to keep you busy as the weather gets warmer—including Shabbat celebrations, an evening at the zoo, a family festival and bonfire, and more. Beginning in early June, jbabydetroit! is starting another prenatal class series for parents-to-be (or those needing a refresher), so spread the word!


 

Friday Night Lights
Appetizers and schmoozing, followed by a participatory Shabbat evening service and a catered dinner (gluten-free and vegetarian options available). After dinner activities for kids and adults. RSVP required.

Temple Beth El – Road Rally
Grab a carload of friends and follow the clues around town to get points; cars with the most points will win prizes at the post-rally dessert gathering. RSVP requested.

Bookstock Used Book & Media Sale
Shop for a cause at Detroit’s biggest used book and media sale. Proceeds will fund literacy projects in Metro Detroit.

Walk & Run for Israel
Celebrate Israel with a 5K Family Fun Run followed by an AIPAC community event, guest speaker, kosher lunch, and parade. Free, registration requested.

Tamarack Camps – Dad & Me Family Camp
Dads can spend a relaxing weekend at camp—no moms allowed! Traditional camp activities, campfire, s’mores, and evening childcare. Best for families with kids ages 4 – 12, registration required, limited space available.

Taste of Tamarack
First-time campers are invited to spend a day at camp with camp tours, arts & crafts, sports, rock climbing, and other camp favorites. Snacks and drinks provided, advance registration requested, free.

Talkin’ Tamarack
After the camp bus leaves, parents are invited to meet the camp leadership and learn all of the important details about camp including how to prepare and what to pack. RSVP requested.

The Great Jewish Family Festival
Celebrate Lag B’omer with family activities including archery, face painting, bounce houses, sports, crafts, a bonfire, and live music. Free and fun for the whole family. Kosher BBQ will be available for purchase.

SpringElation @ the Detroit Zoo
A family-friendly evening at the zoo with carousel rides, arts & crafts, music, dancing, railroad rides, and a kosher picnic dinner. Proceeds will support JARC services for individuals with disabilities. Purchase tickets in advance or at the door.
