Kate Hudson Welcomes Her First Daughter

Yesterday, actress Kate Hudson, 39, welcomed a daughter with her boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa.

In an Instagram post, Hudson wrote, “we have decided to name our daughter Rani (pronounced Ronnie) after her grandfather, Ron Fujikawa. Ron was the most special man who we all miss dearly. To name her after him is an honor.”

The baby’s full name, she revealed, is Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa. Hudson is also mom to Ryder, 14, her son with ex-husband and Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, and Bingham, 7, her son with former fiancee Matthew Bellamy of Muse.

Fujikawa, who is also a musician, has been in her life for over 15 years —  he is her best friend’s stepbrother. As Hudson explained earlier this year, “We kinda skipped through the part of knowing what the hiccups were. You kinda skip the part of going, ‘Oh, you’re like that?'”

The daughter of Jewish actress Goldie Hawn, Hudson was raised Jewish but practices Buddhism. Still —naming one’s child after a deceased relative is a very Jewish practice.

While the baby girl is named after Danny’s presumably not-Jewish grandfather, Ran is a Hebrew name that means “sings” or “becomes joyful,” which is from Ron, a Hebrew word for “joy.”

How lovely! Mazel tov to the new parents.
