Mayim Bialik: Back for Season 9 of ‘The Big Bang Theory’

Disclaimer: There are NO spoilers about season 9 in this post at all. It’s safe to proceed as long as you saw Season 8’s season finale!

And it began with a bang.

It’s been a long summer. My father passed away in April, so I spent the summer sort of picking myself up off of the ground in many ways. I am reciting Kaddish as much as my schedule allows, and now that the summer is over and I am on a more regular schedule, I will get to go with more regularity.

I spent the summer enjoying my kids, and we even went to Israel for a CBS Watch Magazine shoot with my ex-mother-in-law. The Big Bang Theory LEGO set came out last week (and you can win it here!), so my kids are begging me to buy it for them ,and their dad and I are holding out as long as we can just to show them not everything comes easy just because their mom is a TV star with a LEGO figurine in her likeness.

I did a movie for “Lifetime” co-starring Ryan McPartlin, who is mostly known for being super handsome, but is also really funny and goofy and a terrific actor and person.

And I missed being at work this summer. Because I like my castmates, and we are accustomed to spending a lot of time together. Sure, we get together here and there on hiatus, but we have busy lives, and Kunal (“Raj”) and Jim (“Sheldon”) did plays in New York, and I am grateful for Instagram because I got to follow everyone’s adventures all summer that way.

I got asked a lot this summer if I am coming back to the show. Of course! Just because my character needed “time off” from Sheldon doesn’t mean we are broken up, and it certainly doesn’t mean I am not coming back as a cast member.

Season 9 picks up literally less than 24 hours after Season 8 ended. So we will deal with everything you saw in the season finale: Leonard and Penny going to Las Vegas to get married, and Amy taking time off from Sheldon.

It’s a very funny episode. It doesn’t tie everything up in a neat package; our show rarely does that. It’s a lot of group scenes, and some really good one-on-one scenes as well. Kevin Sussman (“Stuart”) is back with some lines that are making me crack up in rehearsal already. It’s a great season opener.

Here’s me and my buddy Jim Parsons on set on day one. We all have a lot of catching up to do off camera. And on camera, we are all so excited to bring you Season 9.
