Andy Samberg’s Time at ‘SNL’ Prepared Him for Fatherhood

Andy Samberg has always been a loveable, goofy star — first on Saturday Night Live, and now on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. But as of August 2017, when his wife Joanna Newson gave birth to a baby girl, he’s also a dad. (And, may we add, a hot Jewish dad.)

While promoting his latest movie, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, he spoke with the New York Times about fatherhood. Samberg, 39, said, “It’s been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Just like a beautiful, incredible dream. It has surpassed every expectation I ever had. It’s definitely been very blissful.”

Awww.

Still, Samberg isn’t afraid to get real about the challenges as fatherhood. Last fall, he told Jimmy Kimmel about how hard it is, explaining, “When your wife is pregnant and you’re expecting, everyone’s like, ‘It’s incredible. Get ready. It’s magic. It’s the most life-changing experience you’ll ever have. Brace yourself for heaven.’ Then the second the baby comes, everyone’s like, [demonic voice] ‘Welcome to hell! Ha ha ha! You fool! You’re in a world of shit! … Now you’re in it!’ I feel like I’m gonna get kicked out for telling everyone without kids — it’s really hard. I’d look out.”

And while he may be “walking around in utter exhaustion,” he’s super experienced in that department: “I had good training for parenthood by working at SNL,” he told the Times. “The sleep deprivation part of it has been like, ‘Oh, right — this feeling.’ But there’s so much less stress because the baby’s not going live at 11:30.”

But Baby Samberg is already showing some early promise as a comedian. “She’s still really young, but she has started just sitting there and making fart noises with her mouth and then laughing really hard,” Samberg told Kimmel. “So I was like, ‘Oh, well, I’ve taught her everything I know.’”
