Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner Gave Their Second Son a Very Jewish Name

Mazel tov to Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner, who just became parents for the second time earlier this month.

Kushner, businessman and brother of Jared Kushner, announced the birth of their second child with a sweet hospital picture of the bub’s head, writing welcome to the world (using the world emoji instead of the word) and a red heart, and sharing his birthdate, July 11.

A little over eight days later, as is customary in Jewish tradition (after the baby’s bris), fashion model Kloss, 30, shared the baby’s name: Elijah Jude.

Elijah is, of course, the name of the biblical prophet we all pour a glass for on Passover, and Jude is short for Judah, one of the 12 tribes of Israel and the leader of the Maccabees in the Hanukkah story. Jude was also declared by us as one of the hottest Jewish baby names of 2022. All in all, a very solid Jewish name.

Little Elijah joins big brother Levi Joseph, whose name is also extremely Jewish — beyond the biblical character, Joseph was also the name of Kushner’s grandfather, a Holocaust survivor.

Back in 2021, Levi’s name was accidentally (we assume) leaked by an Israeli yeshiva Kushner attended in 2003, but this time, Kloss and Kushner got to be the first ones to share the name of their newborn with the media.

While Kloss shared many fabulous photos of her pregnancy on social media as a stylish model is wont to do (she announced the pregnancy back in May, when she shared pictures of her going to the Met Gala with a small bump), she and Kushner, 38, are fairly cautious when it comes to sharing pictures of their sons online. When they do share images with young Levi, his face is almost always full obscured and turned away from the camera.

Kloss did share a very cute photo of Levi in his nursery with her baby bump on display, and a very sweet photoshoot from the day they told him his was going to be a big brother, in which the 2-year-old excitedly kissed her pregnant belly.
