It’s no secret that Apple’s roster of emojis is a bit…disappointing. They’ve added SOME racial diversity to the mix in recent updates–which is great and all–but when it comes to positive depictions of women doing things, we’re still tap dancing in Playboy bunny costumes. (I shit you not. That is really an emoji. That you can use. We don’t have female pilots, or construction workers. But we do have that.)
Thankfully for all of us, MAKERS–a feminist video and documentary studio–has created what they like to call “femojis:” feminist emojis. Among the prominent women featured in their new collection is Jewish U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who has become something of a cultural icon in recent years.
While I sadly doubt that Apple will actually incorporate these in their official software, a feminist killjoy and diehard RBG fan like me can dream.
