Photo of Bride Breastfeeding During Wedding Ceremony Goes Viral

When you think of wedding photos, you normally think of the kiss at the altar, the cake cutting, the bouquet toss, or other iconic moments from the ceremony and reception. But bride Christina Torino-Benton, 30, has a rather unconventional photo from her big day. In it, she’s breastfeeding her 9-month-old daughter, Gemma.

Apparently the child began crying 15 minutes into the hour-long Catholic mass in Montreal on June 18. Since then, the photo has gone viral.

In an interview with People, Torino-Benton said, “I tried for maybe two minutes to allow some family members to calm her down, but having missed her nap, and in that heat, it wasn’t going to happen. There was no question. I had to nurse, and I wasn’t hesitant about it at all.”

The bride told the Today Show, “I was pretty stressed out thinking about her being so upset. I was happy to take her and I was able to calm her down. I was feeling pretty proud of myself.”

But wasn’t it uncomfortable? What about ruining the dress? Torino-Benton thought only of little Gemma.

In her Today interview, she said, “I felt pretty normal, nothing too out of the usual for me, except for I was wearing a 50-pound dress. I was very fortunate I was able to maneuver myself out of it without too much struggle.”

Talk about maternal instinct!
