Editor’s note: This article was updated on March 10, 2023, with new information from Yes Studios.

“Shtisel,” the hit Israeli show about an ultra-Orthodox family with that surname, remains one of the best shows to have come out of the Holy Land, both wonderfully funny and charming, dramatic and impossibly touching.

Unfortunately, if you’re in the U.S. and you’re a Netflix subscriber, your days to watch this excellent show which features Israel’s finest stars — including Michael Aloni and Shira Haas — may be numbered. If you go to your Netflix accounts, it currently shows that the last day to watch the show on the streaming platform is March 24, 2023.

So is “Shtisel” leaving Netflix? Here’s what we know.

Why is “Shtisel” leaving on March 25?

That date isn’t random — it marks the two-year anniversary when the show’s much-anticipated third season arrived on Netflix, and marks the end of Netflix’s initial streaming contract with the Israeli studio Yes Studios.

Has “Shtisel” left Netflix before?

No, but back in 2020, as Yes Studios was ironing out a deal with the TV giant for the streaming of the third season, viewers did get an ominous message about the show leaving Netflix on December 15. That didn’t end up happening, as a new deal was ironed before that date, allowing the show to remain on the platform.

Does this mean that a “Shtisel” season 4 is coming?

No. “Shtisel” season four has never been confirmed by the network, and both Yes Studios’ former managing director Dana Stern and show co-creator Ori Elon have said that it is unlikely to return for a another season (personally, I found the season three finale to be perfect, anyway). But! There are (somewhat substantiated!) rumors of a “Shtisel” spinoff in the works.

But wait, could this all be a false alarm?

Unfortunately, no. While, Yes Studios currently has other shows streaming on Netflix, including the epic “The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem” and “Fauda,” whose fourth season premiered on Netflix last month to much fanfare, the Israeli company has confirmed that the show is leaving Netflix on March 25.

“It’s time to binge,” reads a message on the official “Shtisel” Instagram account, posted jointly with the Yes Studios Instagram, urging viewers to watch all three seasons now because — “Kive wouldn’t want you to miss it!”

Should I still stream all of “Shtisel” as soon as I can, if I haven’t yet?

Um, yes, absolutely! Don’t deprive yourself of this masterful TV show for another moment.
